Clergy Training Pilot Programs
29th September, 2010 - Posted by admin - No Comments
The Office of Formation and Leadership Development is in the beginning stages of exploring partner relationships with key MCC churches to offer an optional concentrated vocational formation experience for clergy candidates. These Clergy Training Pilot Projects will combine ongoing practical experience, leadership development, and spiritual formation beyond the one year required internship for ordination in MCC. Our hope is to provide a mentoring environment for candidates in a church that will help them make the transition from seminary student to pastor. These Pilot Projects do not replace the current Clergy Credentialing system in MCC. In fact they work within it to provide those students who want to take the extra time to mentor with a particular pastoral staff and congregation who resonate with their approach to pastoral ministry. The OFLD will work with each partner congregation to empower the Senior Pastor and a Clergy Training Board to make decisions about a student’s educational and experiential path to ordination in MCC, as long as it falls within the parameters of the MCC Clergy Manual.

About this Project
Rev. Dr. Mona West states, “I want to thank Jeff and the Board of Directors of Jesus MCC for having the initial vision for this kind of Clergy Training Program. I believe there are those congregations in MCC that are uniquely called and equipped to provide this kind of extended mentoring experience for pastoral leadership in our denomination. Jesus MCC is such a congregation. We are also in conversation with Sunshine Cathedral to develop a Clergy Training Pilot Project beginning later in 2011 and hope to contact at least two more congregations to partner with the OFLD in this way.”
